100% natural, our blend of beeswax and mineral oils is perfect for bringing life back to both wood and leather, protecting and preserving them for years to come.

We've carefully selected mineral oils to work with our beeswax, to give you a low-odour, long-lasting conditioner. This product has a very soft honey scent which will fade quickly in use. The oils will not go off, and as our conditioner contains no water it will not dry out in the tin.

To use: Apply a thin layer to clean, dry leather or wood with a soft cloth. Allow to penetrate, then buff to remove any excess. Further layers can be applied if needed to bring items back to life, and occasional re-application will keep your wood and leather looking new for years.

Wood - Suitable for use on wooden furniture.

Our leather and wood conditioner replaces the natural oils lost from the wood and adds a protective layer of beeswax to hold the oils in and restore the colour and beauty of your wood surfaces.

Note that the oils cannot penetrate varnished surfaces, so a wood polish will be more suitable for those pieces.

Leather - Suitable for use on leather clothing including motorcycle leathers, furniture and vehicle upholstery, footwear, saddlery and more.

Leather dries out over time, losing its natural oils and becomes stiff and prone to cracking, which in turn allows moisture and bacteria into the leather.   The oils in our conditioner feed your leather, restoring softness and flexibility and preventing cracking, while the beeswax adds structure and a protective layer to preserve the leather and protect it from the elements.

Note that restoring leather will often change its colour and darken it - the leather will have faded over time as it dried out and the colour will come back towards original.

Do not use on suede or brushed finish leathers.

Why choose a beeswax bread bag

Better for your bread. Better for the planet.

Keeps bread fresher for longer

The breathable cotton weave lets your crust stay crisp while the beeswax locks in just the right amount of moisture.

100% natural — no nasties

Pure local beeswax on organic cotton. No paraffin, no oils, no resins, no plastic. Just the good stuff.

Reusable for a year+

Wash, air dry, repeat. Lasts a full year with daily use. Send it back for a $10 recoating and it's good for another year.

Handmade in Pirongia, NZ

Each bag is made by hand at The Hive in Pirongia using beeswax from local Mountainview Honey bees.

How it works

Three simple steps

  1. 1

    Cool your bread first

Never put warm bread in the bag — let it cool completely first to protect the beeswax coating and prevent moisture build-up.

  2. 2

    Slide your loaf in

Pop your loaf in and fold the top over to seal. Holds one large loaf or two small ones comfortably.

  3. 3

    Wipe clean and reuse

Cold water rinse or damp cloth wipe. Air dry flat. Never use heat — it will melt the coating. That's it.

Questions about your beeswax bread bag

How long does the beeswax coating last?

With regular use, about one year. After that the coating starts to wear down — when it does, you can send it back for a $10 recoating and it's good for another year. The cotton bag itself lasts much longer.

How is this different from plastic bags or beeswax wraps?

Plastic traps moisture and makes bread go hard and mouldy. Beeswax wraps are great for cheese and leftovers, but this bag is specifically designed for bread — the cotton weave breathes properly so your crust stays crisp while keeping the loaf fresh. Plus ours is 100% pure beeswax, so it lasts longer and smells like actual beeswax, not chemicals.

Is it really 100% pure beeswax?

Yes. No paraffin, no oils, no resins. Just pure beeswax from Mountainview Honey right here in NZ on organic cotton. That's why it lasts longer and works better.

How do I care for it?

Wipe with a damp cloth or rinse with cold water. Air dry flat. Never use hot water or put it anywhere near heat — that will melt the coating. It's pretty low-maintenance, honestly.

Can I use it for other foods?

You could, but it's really designed for bread. The breathability is perfect for keeping loaves fresh but may not suit other items as well. Stick with what it's made for and you'll be happy.

What if I don't like it?

You've got 30 days to change your mind — full refund, no questions asked. But honestly, if you're spending money on good bread, this will solve a real problem.

How much is shipping?

$9 flat-rate anywhere in NZ. Free shipping on orders over $150. International shipping from $16.

What customers are saying

Made with love in Pirongia

Why I started making these bags

I got tired of watching beautiful sourdough go stale in plastic bags. There had to be a better way — and beeswax bread bags are exactly that.

Each bag is made by hand right here at The Hive in Pirongia, using cotton fabric and pure beeswax from our local Mountainview Honey bees. It takes time to get right, but the result is something that genuinely works and lasts.

If you're spending time and love on quality bread, you deserve something better than a plastic bag to keep it in. This is it.
